The City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to share the news
that San Antonio City parks and programming are featured in the June 2015
Parks & Recreation Magazine, the
official publication of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). This positive spotlight article regarding recent cultural shifts regarding health and wellness in San Antonio is one of three
major features in the June issue focusing on health and wellness.
The article features interviews with Interim Assistant City Manager Xavier Urrutia, who served as the Parks and Recreation Department Director, and Special Projects Manager Michael Baldwin, who oversees the
department's fitness initiatives. They share insights into how these shifts have positioned the City's parks as valuable assets for the enhancement of citizens' health.
The article shares the limelight with articles regarding how a city's structural makeup can contribute to a healthier population and an update on NRPA's Commit to Health initiative, which helps provide summer and after school healthy meals to children while teaching them about nutrition and health.
