San Antonio City Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales and her husband Kevin, retired Chief Master Sergeant, are the proud parents of Ian Andrew Barton. Ian was born at 1:19 a.m. this morning at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC), and weighs 4 pounds, 9 ounces and is 19 inches long. Both mother and baby are resting and excited about the new addition to the family.
“This is an extremely emotional and jubilant experience for Kevin and me. We have been waiting for this little bundle of joy and he is simply adorable,” said Councilwoman Gonzales.
Councilwoman Gonzales has been serving on Council since June 20, 2013. She and her husband Kevin live on Buena Vista St., walking distance from Ian’s grandmother Eloise Gonzales and their 52-year old business, Bill’s Pawn Shop.
“The San Antonio City Council sends heartfelt congratulatory greetings to our colleague, Shirley, and her husband Kevin on the birth of her son Ian. We are equally proud to have the first sitting Council member give birth to a baby!” said Mayor Julián Castro.
Councilwoman Gonzales is anxious to care for her child and to return to her duties as soon as the doctor issues her a medical release. In the meantime, Mayor Castro has indicated she can Skype into Council meetings as she recuperates and is back on her feet.
Business in her office will continue as usual. The Councilwoman’s Chief of Staff, Choco Meza, and the staff in the Nogalitos Field Office, 3226 Nogalitos, will conduct daily meetings and respond to constituents. The Las Palmas Field Office, 803 Castroville Rd., Suite 218, will open for business on Monday, October 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Constituents can also reach the Las Palmas staff by calling 210-207-0990.
