The City of San Antonio has recently introduced several new mobile apps for download and web-based mobile apps to help residents and visitors quickly find the information they are looking for or request City services while “on-the-go.” The mobile and web-based apps provides access to information related to 311, the Solid Waste Management Department, the San Antonio International Airport, and the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Official Travel Guide and SAVE app.
“We are using technology in San Antonio to redefine and expand how residents can access their local government,” Mayor Julián Castro said. "This growing list of mobile apps gives folks another convenient way to engage with the City of San Antonio."
The City’s newest mobile app, San Antonio 311, allows residents to request City services from anywhere and right from the palms of their hands. Residents can submit service request reports directly to through the app for graffiti removal, junk vehicles, overgrown yards, aggressive or dead animals, pothole repair, damaged garbage and recycle carts and other important City service requests. With their report submissions, residents can also attach photos, identify a location, and check the status of reports.
In June, the Solid Waste Management Department launched an app that lets residents check details and set reminders for every collection type, find out exactly what to do with any item, access important local contacts and find out information about upcoming special events. Called ‘my-waste’, the new app also includes a “what goes where?” search function that helps both single-family residents and residents in apartments and condos quickly find information about how to properly recycle or where to dispose of everything from an aluminum cans to a vacuum cleaner bag.
The San Antonio International Airport has also launched a mobile version of their website this year. The site includes auto-detection capabilities which will automatically display the correct version of the website for mobile device users. Travelers can still get up-to-date information on flights, airport services and amenities, just in a summarized version. Parking rates, airline contacts, ground transportation options and general airport information are also featured on the mobile site. By the end of the year, the Airport will be adding a parking availability feature which allows passengers to view parking availability.
The Convention and Visitors Bureau has introduced two apps to help both residents and visitors alike. With the San Antonio Vacation Experience (SAVE) app, users can access discounts for some of the most popular attractions in San Antonio, including museums, theme parks, shops and sightseeing tours. The app includes links to exclusive hotel offers for downtown, River Walk, airport, theme park and Hill Country areas. Users can further discover the best places to stay, visit and eat through the official San Antonio iTravel Guide app. The app also provides up-to-date information about San Antonio.
All of the free apps, available for Apple and Android mobile devices, including smart phones and tablets, are available for download at the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store for Android devices.
For the web-based apps, rather than downloading it, simply bookmark the address in the device’s internet browser.
