Councilman Diego M. Bernal, District 1, and the Christopher Columbus Italian Society invite the public to Piazza di Colombo Park’s first Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013 at 7 p.m. Piazza di Colombo Park is located at 500 Columbus St., directly in front of San Francesco di Paola Catholic Church and Columbus Hall.
Councilman Bernal, who worked with Piazza di Colombo to include the event in the City’s annual lighting program, asks the community to join him and support Little Italy’s newest tradition. This family-friendly event marks the inaugural holiday celebration at the park co-sponsored by the City of San Antonio. Children are encouraged to attend with a holiday ornament to place on the tree.
The Christopher Columbus Italian Society was chartered under the laws of Texas on May 14, 1890. The Society manages Historic Columbus Hall and hosts the popular “Spaghetti Dinners” in downtown San Antonio. Piazza di Colombo is a 501c3 organization dedicated to the preservation and cultivation of the Italian heritage in San Antonio by promoting the restoration of Piazza di Colombo Park.
