Councilman Rey Saldaña will team up with Southwest Independent School District and South San Independent School District to create a “Winter Wonderland” in District 4. The goal of the event is to promote school attendance and provide children with hands-on experience not normally common to the San Antonio area.
The event will take place on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Miller’s Pond Community Center, 6175 Old Pearsall Rd. The Winter Wonderland will feature two giant snow slides and a 30-foot by 30-foot snow play area. Councilman Saldaña applauds both SWISD and SSISD for collaborating on this exciting event in the name of school attendance.
"So many students in our area have never been outside of San Antonio, and many of them don't realize the opportunities available to them outside of their neighborhoods. This is a symbolic way of expanding their horizon and introducing them to one of those elements – snow, said Councilman Saldaña. "Our young people are smart, motivated, and ready to take on the challenges of the world, it's our job to expose them to that world in any way we can. It's simple enough to see snow on TV or read about it in science class, but it’s entirely different to experience it.”
