District 8 City Councilman Ron Nirenberg delivered the keynote address at the 2014 Resiliency Conference hosted by imagineSanAntonio and Solar San Antonio at the Rackspace headquarters this afternoon. imagineSan Antonio is a public policy think tank devoted to responsible growth. Councilman Nirenberg's remarks addressed sustainability in San Antonio, with a particular focus on water.
“Resiliency has immediate economic return for our communities,” said Councilman Nirenberg. “If we hold out for carrots in sustainability policy, we leave it to our kids to get the stick.”
The conference, which was conducted over the past two Fridays, featured speakers from the San Antonio River Authority and Rackspace on topics ranging from watershed management to climate policy.
Councilman Nirenberg discussed his new water supply initiative and highlighted the unique challenges and opportunities for the entire South Texas region.
"imagineSanAntonio is dedicated to leveraging resources to ensure a sustainable and resilient economy," he said. "Water is the lifeblood of our economic future and is at the top of my agenda."
Councilman Nirenberg also will speak about San Antonio's refugee population at the 2nd Annual C.I.E.L.O. Garden Fundraiser tomorrow, Feb. 22, 2014, at the House of Prayer Lutheran Church at 10226 Ironside Dr. The “Around the World at One Table” event offers international fare, live entertainment, and a silent auction, and helps support the refugee community in San Antonio through the community garden.
