Newly-elected District 8 City Councilman Ron Nirenberg has reached an agreement with the City’s Department of Public Works engineering staff to reduce the speed limit on Wurzbach Road from 40 MPH to 35 MPH and add 17 new speed limit signs in the South Texas Medical Center effective today.
Pedestrian safety has become a growing concern as traffic and construction have increased over the past 10 years. The tragic death of Dr. Patrick Lindner, Jr., a distinguished physician at the Audie Murphy VA Hospital, has brought light to this ongoing issue.
“Pedestrian safety in the Medical Center is a city-wide issue because the patients come from every corner of San Antonio,” Councilman Nirenberg said. “We are taking aggressive action to prevent future tragedies.”
Additional solutions Councilman Nirenberg and Public Works engineering staff will be implementing in the Medical Center area include sidewalk and road repairs, pavement legends, traffic signal timing modifications and an accelerated construction timeline for the state of the art HAWK traffic signal.
