photo photo

On March 25, 2006, at a parking lot at 1011 E. Houston, a vehicle was broken into during the morning, and a case was taken containing rare historical photos and documents. The photo is from 1917 and shows a Fort Sam Houston soldier, Harold A. Bouton, standing with his horse near the Ft. Sam stables. The original photo is approximately 8" x 10" and is sepia (reddish brown) in color (shown here is a scan of a xerox copy). The second photo is a page from the journal or diary kept during World War I by Bouton as he was leaving San Antonio and going to France. The handwritten diary is approximately 8" x 12" and 1/2" thick. The cover is hard-bound in a faded black, and some of the pages are loose.

These historical items were to be presented to the Fort Sam Houston Historical Museum by the son of Harold Bouton, but were stolen from the Bouton family car before they could deliver them.

If anyone has any information about the present location of the photo or diary, or about the person or persons who removed the historical documents from the vehicle, please contact:
Det. E. Rohmer, East Property Crimes, (210)207-8854.
