THE EXPLORER PROGRAM

The Boy Scouts of America sponsors Explorer Programs in a wide variety of professions, inlcuding Fire Fighting, Medical Professions, Chemistry, High Adventure, and Law Enforcement. The San Antonio Police Department participates in the Police Explorer program through Explorer Posts established at all six substations: Prue (NW), West, South, Central, East and North, as well as a Park Police Explorer Post.

    THE EXPLORER CODE

    As an Explorer ...
          I believe that America's strength lies in our trust in God and in the courage, strength, and traditions of our people.
          I will, therefore, be faithful in my religious duties and will maintain a personal sense of honor in my own life.
          I will treasure my American heritage and will do all I can to preserve and enrich it.
          I will recognize the dignity and worth of all humanity and will use fair play and goodwill in my daily life.
          I will acquire the Explorer attitude that seeks truth in all things and adventure on the frontiers of our changing world.

    HOW DO YOU QUALIFY FOR EXPLORERS?

    Both male and female young adults are encouraged to join Explorers. To join you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between the ages of 14 and 21 years of age
  • Have a sincere interest in law enforcement
  • Be enrolled in school and maintain a "C" average
  • Have parental permission if under the age of 17
  • Have no serious police record
  • Be in good health
  • Maintain a neat appearance and manner in compliance with the policies of the Department
  • Pass a thorough background check
  • Complete the Basic Explorer Training Program

    AS AN ADULT, HOW CAN I HELP?

    Adult leadership is always needed when conducting our Explorer programs. Many times, transportation is needed and adult assistance is necessary.
    Assistant Post Advisors are needed, as well as members for the Post Committee, and other consultants for adult leadership.
    If you have time to spend with the Explorers, contact one of the Explorer Post Advisors. You will find the rewards more than satisfying if you choose to help.
