The three Spanish Colonial-period statues shown left (and below) were recently stolen from the 18th century Mission San Juan in San Antonio, Texas. The theft took place sometime late the night of Monday, July 31 or early the morning of Tuesday, August 1, 2000. Entry to Mission San Juan was through prying open the locked front doors of the church. The statues, which are carved and painted wood and between 3-4 feet tall, are considered priceless by due to their religious and historical significance. |

During late June, 2000, the hand-carved wood statue of the Virgin Mary, pictured left, was stolen from Mission Conception. The statue was donated to the church by the King of Spain. The statue is approximately 24 inches high. |
