Project Updates

Updates for the weeks of February 16th to March 2nd 2017

  • Begin underground SAWS water and sewer work
  • Begin CPS gas work
  • Begin underground storm drainage work
  • Continue removal of concrete sidewalks and driveways
  • Install temporary crosswalk on Quincy
  • Installation of concrete traffic barriers
  • Begin removal of CPS street lighting

VIA will be implementing the detour route as follows:

From San Pedro and Quincy, southbound, L-Quincy, across Main, R-Richmond, R-St. Mary's, across Navarro, and continue on St. Mary's. 

Buses that travel southbound on Main will detour:

From Main and Quincy, southbound, L-Quincy, R-Richmond, R-St. Mary's, across Navarro, and continue on St. Mary's.

San Pedro Avenue closed for Main, Navarro & San Pedro Roundabout Construction:

San Pedro Avenue between Quincy Avenue and Main Street will be closed beginning January 30, 2017 for the construction of the Main, Navarro & San Pedro Roundabout project. The roundabout project is part of the 2012-2017 Bond Program Downtown Streets Reconstruction Project. The San Pedro closure will remain until the summer of 2017 and will be followed by other lane closures on Main and Navarro.

The Main, Navarro & San Pedro Roundabout project includes full reconstruction of the intersection of San Pedro Avenue and N. Main Avenue, which is a 5-leg intersection, two of the legs being on N. Main and the other three on San Pedro, Camden, and Navarro. The reconstruction will include raised medians, 10’ shared use paths to improve bicycle and pedestrian connectivity, curbs and gutters, reconstruction of existing driveway approaches, landscaping, pedestrian lighting and other amenities. In addition, this project will include a public art component.

BACKGROUND

The Main, Navarro & San Pedro Roundabout project is part of the 2012-2017 Bond Program Downtown Streets Reconstruction Project.

Construction on the Main, Navarro & San Pedro Roundabout project is expected to last approximately 10 months.

  • Project bidding began November 2016
  • Construction starts January 2017
  • Construction completion October 2017 (weather permitting)
