Major Thoroughfare Plan Amendment 13001: East/West Connector (Mathis Road)
- Major Thoroughfare Component: East/West Connector (Mathis Road)
- Proposed Amendment: Realign the East/West Connector, a Secondary Arterial Type A requiring 86 feet of right-of-way, generally located in south Bexar County between Applewhite Road and Campbellton Road
Transportation & Capital Improvements (TCI) received an application to amend the Major Thoroughfare Plan (MTP). At the first public information meeting held on June 2, 2014, TCI presented three potential realignments of the East/West Connector. Attendees were asked to identify the preferred realignment following a brief presentation. After review of the public input from the Major Thoroughfare Plan Committee, TCI has developed a new preferred alignment that is now being presented to the public. The preferred alignment is shown in the map above.
June 2 Public Meeting Materials
Following this opportunity for additional public input, the preferred alignment will be presented to the Planning Commission Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). Following review by the TAC, the proposed amendment will be presented to the Planning Commission at a public hearing. The Planning Commission will make a recommendation to City Council. City Council will consider the proposed amendment at a public hearing to make the final decision to amend the MTP. The committee meetings and City Council hearing have not been determined at this time. A notice will be sent to affected property owners and stakeholders that submitted their contact information to be notified of upcoming meetings. Contact Rebecca Pacini (210-207-4087 or online here) if you wish to be notified of any upcoming meetings.
The MTP is a component of the City’s Comprehensive Plan that generally identifies the location for major roads within the San Antonio metropolitan area. The MTP assures a transportation network that works to move people, goods, and services in an efficient manner through right-of-way dedication for future roads. The MTP was adopted on September 21, 1978 by City Council Ordinance No. 49818. The MTP has been amended several times over the years to calibrate and realign the thoroughfares along with development of the greater San Antonio metropolitan area. The MTP is generally built as development occurs.
