San Antonio Missions World Heritage Festival 2017

Join us for the World Heritage Festival September 6 -10, 2017! The World Heritage Festival is an annual collaborative event to celebrate and promote our San Antonio Missions, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and raise funds to preserve, maintain, promote, and connect.

September 6, 2017

World Heritage Festival Press Conference

Location: The Alamo, 300 Alamo Plaza, San Antonio, TX 78205 • Time: 10:00 a.m.

The San Antonio Story Exhibit Opening

Location: Plaza de Armas Gallery, 115 Plaza de Armas, San Antonio, TX 78205 • Time: 6:00 p.m.

The World Heritage Office, Arts & Culture Department and Office of Historic Preservation invite you to celebrate the many stories that make San Antonio unique! This special exhibit features San Antonio artists’ interpretations of stories told by people who grew up in the neighborhoods around the San Antonio Missions.

Living Heritage Symposium (Multi-Day Event)

Location: Bexar County Courthouse, 100 Dolorosa, 2nd Floor @ Double-height Courtroom, San Antonio, TX 78205 Time: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Registration: $95

The 1st International Living Heritage Symposium brings together experts from around the world to advance new ideas in managing heritage with sustainable development. The symposium, open to heritage management professionals, advocates and policy-makers, requires registration through the Office of Historic Preservation at a cost of $95.

Sunset Picnic at Mission San Juan Farm

Location: Mission San Juan, 9101 Graf Rd, San Antonio, TX 78214 Time: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Enjoy a picnic-style dinner at sunset, featuring foods grown at the San Juan Farm. Meals can be ordered ahead of time at www.safoodbank.org from a half dozen of San Antonio’s favorite restaurants and available for pick-up at the event. Guests can enjoy hay-ride tours of the farm, mission tours, music, appetizers and more. The event, tours, and music begin at 6:00 p.m. with dinners available for pick up at 7:00 p.m. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and/or picnic blankets. Adult meals available for $75 per person and child meals are $15 per person.

Living Heritage Symposium

World Heritage Festival Luncheon

Location: Briscoe Western Museum, Jack Guenther Pavilion, 210 W. Market Street, San Antonio, TX 78205 • Time: 11:30 am – 1:30 p.m.

Luncheon will feature a panel of World Heritage experts.

RESTORED BY LIGHT

Location: Mission Concepcion, 807 Mission Rd, San Antonio, TX 78210 • Time: 6:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

The Office of Historic Preservation’s popular event Restored by Light returns to Mission Concepcion with family-friendly activities and entertainment. Bring a picnic or enjoy snacks from the available food truck vendors. At dark, the facade of Mission Concepcion will be restored to its original frescoed appearance using projection technology illumination. Celebrate our local heritage with food, music, and fun! Free.

Tour de las Misiones Bike Ride

Location: Mission Park Pavilion, 6030 Padre Drive, San Antonio, TX 78214  Time: 8:00 a.m. 

Organized in partnership with Earn-A-Bike Co-op, the World Heritage Tour de las Misiones Bike Ride will kick off with an organized Bike Tour where registered participants will begin their 7, 14 or 22 mile ride beginning and ending at Mission Park Pavilion #1. Participants will tour the Southside of San Antonio and The Alamo stopping at each Mission where educational opportunities and activities will be available.

Tour de las Misiones 5K and 10K Walk

Location: Mission Park Pavilion, 6030 Padre Drive, San Antonio, TX 78214 • Time: 8:00 a.m.

Organized in partnership with the America’s Walking Club (AVA), the World Heritage Tour de las Misiones 5k and 10k walk will start with an organized Walk where registered participants will enjoy a 5K or 10K Walk through the scenic River Walk: Mission Reach and Mission San Jose. The Walk will be begin and end at Mission Park Pavilion #1.  

Mission Pachanga

Location: Mission Park Pavilion, 6030 Padre Drive, San Antonio, TX 78214 • Time: 10:00 a.m.

As part of the World Heritage Festival, Mission Pachanga will celebrate our Missions’ designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site by bringing together musicians and local artists to highlight the distinct and diverse spirit of our city, rich in history, folk-art, and musical tradition. This family-friendly event will feature local art and activities from vendors, food trucks, and musical performances from three fun, upbeat acts. The celebration will take place immediately following the Bike Ride and Walk, and will go through the evening at the Mission Park Pavilion. Free.

September 10, 2017

Celebratory Mass

Location: Mission Concepcion, 807 Mission Rd, San Antonio, TX 78210 • Time: 10:00 a.m.

In partnership with Las Misiones, a celebratory mass will take place in recognition of the World Heritage UNESCO designation as a World Heritage Site. Sunday Mass will be held at Nuestra Señora de la Purísma Concepción.
