Chartered in 1934, ADL is a non-profit humane society advocating the non-euthanasia of healthy animals and providing shelter and care for dogs and cats. The League is committed to the welfare of animals, enhancing the quality of life for orphaned animals by finding the best possible home for each pet. Supported by voluntary contributions, the League provides programs and services which strengthen the bond between animals and people.

The mission of SPCA is to serve as an active resource in Bexar County to:

  • find homes and provide temporary shelter for abandoned and unwanted
    animals prevent cruelty to animals
  • promote the spaying and neutering of dogs and cats
  • educate the community on responsible animal care, ultimately reducing
the number of stray, abused and unwanted animals

The Animal Resource Center is a grant-funded pilot project bringing spay/neuter and various veterinary services to an underserved portion of the San Antonio metro area. A joint project of the San Antonio Metro Health District, the Animal Defense League, the Veterinary Medical Association of Bexar County, and the Humane Society - SPCA of Bexar County, the center opened on September 30, 1997.

We admire the folks over at RPOA tremendously, because they have the compassion to help creatures that can't help themselves. They perform a variety of educational and other services, but what gets me is the way they take in helpless animals and find them homes where people will love them. That benefits the new owners as well as the animal. Let them tell you the story of a magnificent dog named Bones.
