In
addition to providing care for animals entering the ACS facility, Animal
Care Services also holds the responsibility of ensuring the safety of
residents from dangerous or unhealthy animals. ACS also intervenes on behalf
of homeless animals at risk of injury, starvation or death on our roads and
streets.
You
can help a stray animal during an emergency situation by contacting 311, the
City’s Customer Service Line. Inform the service representative of the
following so that appropriate action can be taken in a timely manner.
Report if the animal is:

Stray and/or injured
-
Loose vicious (the animal (s) has a known owner and you can provide
owner information)

Stray vicious (unknown owner )
-
Stray public nuisance (dog roaming, getting into trash etc, dog not
vicious – just a public nuisance)
-
Regular stray (no owner, not causing problem – just a stray)
-
Stray traps (any animal in a live animal trap)
-
Stray contained (an animal that is being contained in an area, i.e.
pool area, backyard area, garage)
Immediately call 911
if you or someone else has been physically attacked by a dog. Remember!
It’s State Law that all animal bites must be reported to Animal Care
Services. You may call the bite emergency line at (210) 737-1600 or
(210) 287-2778 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
