Lost and Found Pets Losing your pet is stressful for the owner as well as the animal. Animal Care Services may be the place to start looking for your pet. Contact us at 210-207-4PET for inquiries.

It is always recommended that you walk through the kennels in the facility to assure your pet is not here. If your dog is licensed; we will attempt to contact you. It is important that your phone number is on file and correct.

Other things you can do to find your pet….

  • Search the Pet Harbor website for lost pets
  • Post flyers in the neighborhood
  • Ask your neighbors, mail carrier, or any other person in the neighborhood if they’ve seen your pet
  • With the school’s permission – post your flyers
  • Place an ad in the local newspaper and offer a reward if found
  • Check your local newspaper in the “found” section


Policy

Animals can enter the facility as owner surrenders, turned over as stray or lost, or picked up while roaming the streets. It is then impounded and owners may visit the facility and be escorted to the kennels to see if their pet was impounded.

If the owner of an impounded animal can be identified, the animal control officer shall immediately upon impoundment notify the owner at the address stated on the records.

Impounded, unowned dogs and cats shall be kept for not less than two (2) working days and then either euthanized or placed in adoption center (if the animal is deemed adoptable and there is room in the adoption kennel).

Owned animals will be held for the ten day observation after a biting incident.
Any animal not reclaimed by its owner within twenty-four (24) hours of the expiration of the quarantine or observation period shall be impounded.

If any animal is determined by a licensed veterinarian to be suffering from disease or injury that places the animal in pain or beyond reasonable medical help, the animal may be euthanized immediately. The regular holding time will not apply.


Fees

Any owner reclaiming an impounded animal shall, before the animal will be released, pay impoundment and boarding fees as follows:

  • 1st time impounded ….$50
  • 2nd time impounded …$75
  • 3rd time impounded …$100
  • 4th and subsequent times impounded … $200
  • Boarding fee for regular impoundments is $10 per day

    If the animal is being held for observation because it has bitten a human being or another animal, the impoundment fee shall be as follows:
  • 1st time impounded … $75
  • 2nd time impounded … $100
  • 3rd and subsequent times impounded … $200
  • Boarding fee for observation impoundments is $20 per day






  • Additional Information

    No dog or cat shall be released from the animal control facility without the owner presenting proof that the dog or cat has had a rabies vaccination within the past twelve (12) months.

    An owner of any dog or cat who cannot provide proof of said rabies vaccination shall be subject to a fee of twelve dollars ($12) for rabies vaccination for each dog or cat.
