San Antonio Humane Society

The mission of the San Antonio Humane Society is to serve as an active resource in Bexar County to find homes and provide temporary shelter for abandoned and unwanted animals prevent cruelty to animals, promote the spaying and neutering of dogs and cats and educate the community on responsible animal care, ultimately reducing the number of stray, abused and unwanted animals. The San Antonio Humane Society is an ACS Spay/Neuter Program, Stray Hold, and High Volume Pet Placement Partner.

Animal Defense League

Chartered in 1934, ADL is a non-profit humane society advocating the non-euthanasia of healthy animals and providing shelter and care for dogs and cats. The League is committed to the welfare of animals, enhancing the quality of life for orphaned animals by finding the best possible home for each pet. Supported by voluntary contributions, the League provides programs and services which strengthen the bond between animals and people. Animal Defense League is an ACS Spay/Neuter Program and Stray Hold Partner.


SpaySA is a grant-funded project bringing spay/neuter and various veterinary services to an underserved portion of the San Antonio metro area. A joint project of the San Antonio Metro Health District, the Animal Defense League, the Veterinary Medical Association of Bexar County, and the San Antonio Humane Society, the center opened on September 30, 1997. SpaySA is an ACS Spay/Neuter Program Partner.

Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP)

The mission of the Spay Neuter Assistance Program is to prevent the suffering and death of cats and dogs due to overpopulation, especially in low-income areas and to create a world where there are no homeless dogs and cats by designing, delivering, promoting, and advancing community-based animal sterilization services. SNAP is an ACS Spay/Neuter Program Partner.

Spay Neuter Inject Protect of San Antonio (SNIPSA)

SNIPSA's mission is fourfold: to RESCUE, REHABILITATE, and RE-HOME adoptable animals from high kill shelters and the community, and to encourage RESPONSIBILITY within the pet-owning population by providing free spay/neuter services to areas of San Antonio with the greatest need. SNIPSA is an ACS Spay/Neuter Program Partner.

San Antonio Pets Alive! (SAPA!)

Established in 2012, San Antonio Pets Alive!’s mission is to implement innovative and progressive programs to rescue as many animals as possible off of the daily "euthanasia list" and help owners who are having problems so great that they need to surrender their pet(s) to a shelter. SAPA is a High Volume Pet Placement Partner.

Best Friends Animal Society

The mission of the Best Friends Animal Society is to bring about a time when there are No More Homeless Pets. This is done by demonstrating and promoting exemplary animal care and building community programs and partnerships nationwide. San Antonio is one of only three cities in the country selected to host a Community Cat Program. This program provides invaluable support in 14 targeted zip codes around San Antonio in sterilizing and returning (known as Trap-Neuter-Return) community cats as well as educating the public.

Sea World of Texas

Sea World of Texas and Animal Care Services have teamed up to promote pet adoptions with the Happy Tails program. All adopters who get their new pet at ACS, the Animal Defense League or the San Antonio Humane Society will receive two free tickets to Sea World.

San Antonio Area Foundation

The San Antonio Area Foundation is a philanthropic organization that matches donors with causes they are passionate about to better the community. The Talk About It! campaign, a bilingual, multi-channel grassroots effort, aims to make San Antonio a No Kill community by promoting spay/neuter, adoption and responsible pet care. The program is a collaboration of the City of San Antonio, Alamo Area Partners for Animal Welfare (AAPAW), the San Antonio Area Foundation Consortium of Partners and animal welfare organizations.

Friends of Animal Care Services

Friends of Animal Care Services is a 501c3 non-profit whose mission is to:

  • promote and increase spaying and neutering of dogs and cats.
  • to increase adoptions by establishing adoption centers.
  • develop, promote and advertise public education programs aimed at teaching responsible pet care.
  • eliminating cruelty to animals, especially recognizing "The Link" between animal cruelty, child abuse, and family violence, thus helping the City of San Antonio become a "No-Kill" Community.
