FY 2006

NEW ADMINISTRATION FACILITY AT STINSON ? CONSTRUCTION

  • The 1936 vintage administration building which serves as the central hub of the airport has become inadequate- in terms of space due to  high demand for administrative and retail space on Stinson.
  • In order to serve the contemporary needs of the Airport and to facilitate future growth requires 24,000 square feet of additional space for administrative, concession, Corporate FBO space, educational, and commercial uses.
  • The proposed design provides a 21st century update for Stinson Airport, accommodates contemporary and future needs, and at the same time "celebrates" and enhances the existing historic structure

NEW TAXILANE

  • A new taxilane is planned to allow access to additional space on the airport that will be developed for hangars and aircraft parking

HELICOPTER LANDING PINNACLE

  • Local helicopter users have requested that a helicopter pinnacle be installed at Stinson. The pinnacle is used to simulate a roof landing and is required during an FAA check ride. A proper and safe pinnacle currently does not exist in the area.

Both areas have limited line of sight issues from the current control tower. A new tower eliminates line of sight issues on the airport ensuring federal regulations are followed and a safer operating environment.

 HANGAR 7 RENOVATION

  • It has been the policy of the Aviation Department to renovate historically recognized hangars on the airport. Renovation allows building code compliant issues to be addressed as well as making the facility safer and better utilized.

PCC JOINT REPLACEMENT

  • Routine maintenance for concrete requires periodic replacement of the joint material.

NEW ENTRANCE AND DIRECTIONAL SIGNAGE

  • Currently Stinson does not have landside entrance and has limited directional signage. To better serve the users on the airport addition signage and new entrances areas will be installed.

WEST APRON IMPROVEMENTS

  • This project completes a portion of aircraft ramp that was left unpaved due to utilities directly below the surface. The utilities (sewer laterals) will be removed by SAWS in 2006.
  • The unpaved area will complete the apron and allow addition aircraft parking.
