The San Antonio International Airport has began the construction phase of the major terminal expansion project. On December 14, 2000, City Council gave the approval to implement a terminal expansion project, which will add Terminal B (seven gates) to Terminal 1, remove Terminal 2 and construct a Terminal C (five gates and expandable up to eleven gates). Portions of this project are currently under design by 3D/International or under construction. Under the expansion, Terminal B will replace Terminal 2, which will be demolished to make room for Terminal C. Terminal C will be constructed in phases, as passenger growth and demand for gate facilities occur. The Terminal B project will involve extensive roadway expansion to meet new access needs and will include an extension of the Terminal 1 two-tier roadway system to accommodate traffic and passenger drop off and pick up at the new concourse. (This contract is anticipated for approval October 2006.) Terminal 1 will be renamed Terminal A once Terminal B is completed. The Terminal B Project is scheduled for completion in 2008. For additional information on these projects, contact Bob Cotton, Program Management Team, at (210) 832-5003 or Lisa Brice, Aviation Department at lisa.brice@sanantonio.gov.
