Casa San Antonio

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which was initialed in San Antonio in 1992 and subsequently signed into law in 1993, has brought heightened attention to regional trading opportunities. However, before NAFTA, the City of San Antonio was solidifying its position as a natural hub for trade in North America. The City of San Antonio took advantage of its strategic location and resources by becoming the only major US city to establish trade offices in Mexico.

Building upon its long standing Sister City relationships with both Guadalajara, Jalisco (1974) and Monterrey, Nuevo León (1953), the City opened, in 1991, the first "Casa San Antonio" trade office in Guadalajara. The winning formula was duplicated in Monterrey in 1992 followed by Mexico City in 1995. Casa San Antonio now "serves" as a direct link to Mexico for the San Antonio business community.
