2010 Census and Immigrants

Why should everyone participate in the 2010 Census?

The City of San Antonio is partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau to help achieve a complete and accurate count of our population in 2010. The census defines who we are as a nation.

We strive to improve the lives and welfare of immigrants in our community, many of whom are experiencing hardships related to economic status, language fluency, disabilities and more. In addition, census data can benefit our organization in a number of ways, including providing information that can help us in preparing grant applications.

We are committed to supporting the 2010 Census as another way to improve the quality of immigrants’ lives in our community, and to ensure that even the hardest to count can be accurately represented.

It’s Safe and Confidential. The Census Bureau cannot share respondents’ answers with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enforcement entities. All Census Bureau employees take an oath of nondisclosure and are sworn for life to protect the confidentiality of the data. The penalty for unlawful disclosure is a fine of up to $250,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both. We move forward when you send it back.
