Labor Tribute to the Legacy of Cesar E. Chavez

Samuel Gompers Memorial Statue

The
Samuel Gompers Memorial, the first labor monument in San Antonio, was erected in
1980 during a special ceremony in which Cesar E. Chavez; Lane Kirkland, AFL-CIO
National President; Mayor Henry Cisneros; Jaime Martinez and others were
present. Labor leaders and community activists will gather for a wreath laying
ceremony to honor Samuel Gompers and Cesar E. Chavez. Presented by the Labor
Council for Latin American Advancement, AFL-CIO.

Multi-faith celebration through prayer and song in partnership with local
spiritual leaders. Service will include musical performance. All faiths are

A short historical documentary depicting the
lifelong non-violent struggle of Cesar E. Chavez and his supporters in their
fight for civil and humanitarian rights. Produced and directed by Joe Michael
Gonzales.
• Ray De LaPaz presents “Voices
from the Earth”
This show combines comedy, drama, music and one
big, big salad to portray the odyssey of the California farm workers in their
struggle to earn the right to a decent life.
