Mayor Hardberger’s Official Portrait unveiled at City Council Chambers

Mayor Phil Hardberger’s official portrait was unveiled at City Council Chambers this evening during a reception attended by members of City Council, City staff and guests. The portrait was painted by artist Angel Rodriguez-Diaz, whom the Mayor and Mrs. Linda Hardberger selected from among several artists who submitted samples. Mrs. Hardberger said they chose Rodriguez-Diaz because he’s a local artist and has a unique style.
“The wonderful thing about this portrait is that it really captures Phillip’s personality,” said Mrs. Hardberger. “It’s set in Main Plaza, the heart of the city, which is one of Phillip’s most special accomplishments.”
The portrait features Mayor Hardberger standing in Main Plaza, with San Fernando Cathedral and a portion of City Hall in the background.

“It’s an honor to be captured on canvas with such skill,” he said. “Being Mayor has been one of the greatest adventures of my life and having it memorialized this way is very special.”

Rodriguez-Diaz said he wanted the portrait to reflect the Mayor’s strong leadership over his four-year tenure. “Mayor Hardberger has ignited the imagination and inspired the citizens of San Antonio to think in big terms,” he said. “He has given us a lesson about creativity and leadership in which anything is possible if we have the desire and the will to pursue our vision.”

The portrait, titled “A Man for All Seasons,” will hang in the first floor gallery of Municipal Plaza, along with the 33 former Mayoral portraits dating back to 1837.
