  Mayor Phil Hardberger’s official portrait was unveiled at City Council Chambers this evening during a reception attended by members of City Council, City staff and guests. The portrait was painted by artist Angel Rodriguez-Diaz, whom the Mayor and Mrs. Linda Hardberger selected from among several artists who submitted samples. Mrs. Hardberger said they chose Rodriguez-Diaz because he’s a local artist and has a unique style.

However, eligible voters in City Council Districts 2, 5, and 8 can vote at anyone of the available Early Voting sites.   04/16/2009 Deadline extended for Municipal Civil Service Commission applicants
 

The deadline has been extended for individuals interested in serving as an alternate or regular Municipal Civil Service Commissioner. Interested applicants have until Friday, May 8 to submit an application. The selected individuals will be appointed by City Council and must be available to serve an initial two-year term. Appointed alternate or regular commissioners will be compensated $20 per meeting and provided free designated parking.

  02/04/2009 Small Business Advocacy Committee Seeking Applicants
 

Applicants are being sought for the Small Business Advocacy Committee. The Committee is comprised of 11 members appointed by the City Council and there are currently four vacancies (Districts 1, 5, 8 and Mayoral). The committee, supported by staff in the City’s Economic Development Department, functions as an advisory group by assisting the City Manager and City Council in reviewing the continuing programs of contractors and subcontractors concerning small, minority and women’s business participation.

 
 
  02/03/2009 Citizen Advisory Action Board seeking applicants
 

Applicants are being sought for the Citizen Advisory Action Board. The Boardhears disciplinary cases that are brought forward by a complainant against a San Antonio police officer. This procedure applies only to non-criminal investigations of misconduct by employees. Meetings are held on Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m., and meeting duration is usually runs for two to five hours, depending on the agenda. Board members are also expected to dedicate time to reviewing misconduct cases prior to each board meeting.

The City’s Solid Waste Management Department’s Keep San Antonio Beautiful program has been awarded the Keep America Beautiful President’s Circle Award. The President’s Circle Award recognizes exemplary performance made by certified affiliates of the national nonprofit to reduce litter, minimize waste, and beautify and improve their local communities.

The Historic and Design Review Commission (HDRC) goal is to preserve, protect and enhance historically, culturally, architecturally, and archaeologically significant sites, structures and permits in Historic Districts as well as development along the Riverwalk. They advise the City Council on issues affecting municipally owned art, structures and landscape design.
