| NATIONAL S.O.S.
(Sick of Signs) YEAR |
Sick of Signs? Please join the Housing
and Neighborhood Services Department in its participation in the national campaign to rid
our neighborhoods and business districts of illegally posted signs!
| The American Association of Code
Enforcement Board of Directors declared 2007 as National S.O.S. (Sick of Signs) Year and
May 19-25, 2007 as National S.O.S. Week and to support this campaign, Code Compliance Officers
will be searching public right of ways high and low to remove bandit signs and obtain information
to prosecute those businesses responsible for the illegal advertising postings. |
 |
A bandit sign is any sign posted on a utility pole,
street sign or other street furniture or a sign posted in violation of this chapter in the public
right of way having six (6) square feet or less of advertising area and made of vinyl, paper, cloth
or fabric, polyboard, coroplas, corrugated plastic, poster board, plastic core, cardboard or plywood
including signs with wood or wire framing, posts or stakes. A person found in violation may be found
guilty of a misdemeanor and shall, upon conviction, be punished by a fine not to exceed five hundred
dollars ($500.00).
The illegal signs are normally found clustered at busy
intersections and along main thoroughfares. Code enforcement personnel spend an enormous amount of
time removing and destroying these illegal signs, pulling them away from other, more serious issues in
their neighborhoods. It can also be dangerous to remove these signs, given the heavy traffic along main
thoroughfares and at busy intersections.

removal activity, Click here for form. Form can be faxed to 207-7914 or mailed to 1400 S. Flores, San Antonio, TX 78204.
