The City of San Antonio Department of Human Services Family Resource and Learning Community Division consists of the Administrative Office, and seven Community Family Resource and Learning Centers (CFRLC).

The Administration office provides support to the adult literacy and education initiative, oversees construction of citywide CFRLC’s, funded by a 1989 vote approved bond issue, and staffs the San Antonio Commission on Literacy (SACOL).

It also coordinates the annual Literacy Awareness events.

The CFRLCs provide educational services to adults, which are made possible through an extensive collaboration with Educational Service Center Region 20 San Antonio Independent School District, North East Independent School District and a variety of community resources.

The goal of the CFRLCs is to offer educational opportunities and related services to enable individuals to enhance their ability to read, write, and converse in English, and solve problems at levels of proficiency necessary to function on the job and in society, to achieve one’s goals, and develop one’s knowledge and potential. Computer, financial, and health programs are also offered.

  • CI:Now (Community Information Now) is the former Alamo Area Community Information System (AACIS) which was established in 1998. It is a community partnership comprised of over 20 public, private, governmental, educational and healthcare organizations working together towards a common goal to develop a system whereby the residents of San Antonio and its surrounding counties could readily access information related to health care, education and social services as well as providing computer literacy classes to individuals without access to technology. The City of San Antonio is one of the founding partners and is currently represented by the Department of Human Services and Planning and Development Services.
