Project Cool - Have a FANtastic Summer!
Project Cool is a collaborative outreach initiative designed to reduce/eliminate heat-related health/mortality risks to senior/elderly residents as a result of high, sweltering temperatures experienced during the summer months. The City of San Antonio, Catholic Charities and various community/corporate partners collect and distribute fans to seniors throughout San Antonio and Bexar County each summer. Project Cool operates this year from June 6 through September 16. Seniors in need of a fan for their home can call the United Way’s 2-1-1 Helpline and request a free fan by phone. Eligible recipients must be 60 years of age or older and demonstrate need for a fan. San Antonio/Bexar County residents and groups are encouraged to donate new 20-inch electric box fans this summer. Donors can drop off box fans at their nearest San Antonio Fire Station EXCEPT FOR the Airport Station (click below for a list of participating Fire Stations) at any time during the summer. Donors can also submit monetary donations in any amount to Project Cool’s lead organization, Catholic Charities. Checks may be made payable to: “Project Cool c/o Catholic Charities” and mailed to: Catholic Charities, 202 W. French Place, San Antonio, TX 78212. Project Cool has collected and distributed nearly 72,000 fans to seniors in San Antonio and Bexar County since its launch in 1997. List of Partners
