    Dwyer Avenue Center
    for Transitional Housing

     

Created through the combined efforts of the City of San Antonio and the San Antonio Housing Authority, the Dwyer Avenue Center ( DAC ) is an innovative 52,000 square foot transitional living center which provides a supportive environment for homeless families and individuals while helping them attain a higher level of self-sufficiency. Caseworkers assess needs and goals in order to develop self-sufficiency plan for each individual or family. As part of this plan, residents lease an apartment at DAC with a length-of-stay up to 24 months.

  • 88 Single room apartments 

  • 16 Family units 

  • 32-bed Emergency shelter for women and children (Dwyer Overflow) 

  • Employment services 

  • Pastoral counseling 

  • Financial Literacy classes

  • Self-sufficiency workshops and classes 

  • Weekly support groups 

  • Life skills training 

  • Personal counseling (staffed by Family Violence Prevention Services, Inc.)

  • San Antonio Food Bank - Community Kitchen
