YOUTH SERVICES PREVENTION PROGRAMS Striving Together to Achieve Rewarding Tomorrows (START) Striving Together to Achieve Rewarding Tomorrows (START) is a research-based program developed by the National Center for Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University. It is a long-term, intensive case management program for high-risk youth identified by their school principal. The program provides comprehensive services to the youth and family. START is currently operational in three schools: Athens Elementary and Dwight Middle School in the South San Antonio Independent School District and Gus Garcia Middle School in the Edgewood Independent School District.
Project WORTH is an interdepartmental pregnancy prevention program conducted by the Department of Community Initiatives, Metropolitan Health District, Parks and Recreation Department, Library, External Relations Department, Office of Cultural Affairs and the Economic Development Department. Caseworkers provide prevention groups for male and female teens 12-16. Groups are also available for young girls and their mothers.
