Councilman Rodriguez was born and
raised in San Antonio, Texas near the campus of St. Mary’s
University. In 1992, he graduated from Antonian College
Preparatory High School. He went on to earn his undergraduate
degree from the University of the Incarnate Word (BBA) and
subsequently earned an academic fellowship to attend the
University of Wisconsin Law School (JD, 2000). As a law student,
he served as Vice President of the Latino Law Students’
Association and participated in the law school’s Legal Defense
Program, where he represented indigent clients in state court.
Upon graduation, Councilman Rodriguez was awarded the Bruce F. Beilfus Award for Outstanding Service to the Law School.
In early 2001, Councilman
Rodriguez returned to San Antonio, where he became further
involved in education and policy issues while working as a
juvenile prosecutor for the Bexar County District Attorney’s
Office. As an Assistant D.A., he handled thousands of cases
involving juveniles and worked diligently to assist young
offenders in their rehabilitative efforts.
In May 2004, the Councilman was
elected to serve on the San Antonio Independent School
District’s Board of Education. As a Trustee, he was chair of the
board’s government affairs committee and student advisory panel.
He was also an active member of the Council of Urban Boards of
Education and served on a nationwide task force that examined
the education and policy ramifications surrounding issues of
race, including the minority achievement gap.
Councilman Rodriguez has served
his community as president of the Jefferson Neighborhood
Association, as a former board member of the San Antonio
Children’s Shelter as well as the Boys and Girls Club of San
Antonio. He has also helped senior citizens as a volunteer for
the Community Justice Program and Meals on Wheels. For his
service, he has been awarded a Congressional Award for
Outstanding Service to the Community and has been named one of
the city’s “40 under 40” rising stars by the San Antonio
Business Journal.
Currently, Councilman Rodriguez
maintains his own private law practice, where he provides fair,
honest and cost-effective legal representation. He and his wife, the former Ms. Victoria Gonzalez, reside near the campus of St. Mary's University with their three children Miranda, Aidan and Olivia. |
