You must not have taken a defensive driving course within the last twelve months prior to
receiving your ticket in the State of Texas, you must have liability insurance and a valid Texas driver's
license. Defensive driving may only be taken for ticket dismissal on moving
violations and speeding tickets less than 25 miles over the limit.

class?

No, you do not need to wait until you receive your driving record to take your
class. If you have been approved by the Court to take defensive driving, you will
need to obtain your driving record, which takes approximately six to eight weeks.
During this time you may take your defensive driving class.

What proof is needed that I have completed my defensive driving class?
A.
After taking the defensive driving class, two certificates of completion will be mailed to
you. One of those certificates is an insurance copy and one is a court copy.
The Municipal Court will need the court copy of your certificate as proof of
completion. A receipt of payment from the class is not accepted as proof.
