PROJECT SITES
The
list of project sites below shows the areas where community service workers are assigned
through the Parks and Recreation Department Restitution/Community Service Program. These
sites provide an opportunity for clients to perform assigned restitution hours at a
supervised site in areas throughout the City.
Work
hours vary at the different sites and the client is assigned to a site that will
accommodate the client during a time the client is not working at his/her regular
employment. If a client calls our office early and begins working the restitution hours
immediately, there is no reason why employment hours would have to be missed.
There
is a dress code which stipulates the proper attire while working the restitution hours.
This code has been established to help in the prevention of injuries and follows closely
the requirements of our regular employees.
Workers
are not placed in high risk areas, but are required to perform various maintenance jobs at
the work sites. Samples of possible tasks include raking, outside sweeping, raising canopy
on trees, removing sucker shoots, trimming with the use of weed-eaters, picking up trash,
spreading top soil/sand/mulch, removing/covering graffiti, painting park benches and play
ground equipment, patching street asphalt, filling dirt around curb lines and pipe lines,
etc. There are some areas where workers are also utilized for inside building maintenance,
however, the vast majority of duties are outside maintenance.
The
Parks office does realize that the workers sent to us may not perform these types of
chores in their everyday lives. There always is assigned a crew leader to help provide
proper instructions and guidance to the crew of Community Service workers.
It
is important that a client inform the court of any disabilities/restrictions prior to
being placed on Community Service. At this time our availability of light duty sites is
very limited, although we are working to increase the source of placement options for
these clients.
Most
job sites are within walking distance from bus routes. Although we try to accommodate
clients requests in referring them to a certain location, we will place clients
where the Department needs them.
