As part of Inspections Section of the DSD Building Development Division, the Electrical Inspections Team is focused on refining a combination of traits and associated technical training and experience that serve to qualify us in the profession of electrical inspection.

Our commitment is to produce an electrical inspector that is professional in both conduct and performance. We feel that this commitment is vital to protecting our citizens from hazards arising from the installation and use of electricity. Meeting this commitment will bring respect to our department, our industry, and make it easier for other members of the electrical community to perform their jobs.

As chief electrical inspector and supervisor over the electrical team, I am responsible for my staff’s quality performance on a number of key functions and processes within DSD on behalf of our community. Our primary responsibility is to review electrical installations for compliance with adopted codes such as Chapter 10 of City Code and the National Electrical Code (NEC).

  •  Regulating electricians and electrical construction within the City of San Antonio by issuing violation notices and creating court cases as needed.

  • Serve as the primary point of contacts for customer and contractor questions regarding electrical.

  • Investigate customer complaints and allegations of unsafe electrical installations and conditions.

  • Coordinate with CPS Energy on releases of electrical service following fires or other instances which may require authorization from DSD.

  • Keep current on new code changes and technology such as photovoltaic systems and then working with our industry in implementing them smoothly.

  • Chief position serves as master electrician of record for city electricians performing work on city owned facilities.

  • Chief position is responsible for communicating with trade organizations and other industry organizations on electrical matters.

  • Chief position serves as primary technical support to director on electrical matters.

  • Chief position serves as primary staff support for the Electrical Supervisory Board.
