San Antonio Water System’s (SAWS) downtown sewer infrastructure cleaning continued to make significant progress this week. Crews have completed Phases 1, 2, and 3 to date. Phase 6 will begin on Thursday, February 6 after rush-hour traffic.
Phase 6: Feb 6 – Feb 9*
Phase 6 is scheduled to begin on the evening of February 6. This phase has been moved up due to progress on the previous phases.
· Feb. 6-9: Two lanes on Commerce St. will be closed between St. Mary’s and Soledad. Both lanes are scheduled to remain closed until Sunday, Feb. 9.
· Feb. 6: Set up traffic control followed by equipment to by-pass existing sewer lines.
· Feb. 6-9: Cleaning and televising sewer lines.
· Feb. 9: By-pass pipes and traffic control removed
· Feb. 9: Phase 6 complete

Phase 6 was moved forward out of the original sequence to allow traffic flow for the upcoming Texas Music Educators Association Convention.
Six phases of work are scheduled as follows:
Phase 1: Feb.1-3, Commerce and Alamo Streets (Complete)
Phase 2: Feb. 3-5, Commerce, Alamo and Losoya Streets (Complete)
Phase 3: Feb. 5-6, Alamo St. (Complete)
Phase 6: Feb. 6-9, Commerce St. (In progress)
Break: Feb. 10 – 15, Break for Downtown Convention
Phase 4: Feb. 16-21, Alamo St.
Phase 5: Feb. 21-27, Alamo St.
While the work on the downtown sewer lines will cause traffic delays, businesses and residents in the area can be assured that the sewer lines they depend on have been inspected and cleaned reducing the likelihood of sewage backups and spills. SAWS is under a consent decree with the EPA that mandates the inspection and cleaning of sewer lines in areas around the city.
