The San Antonio Office of Emergency Management assists our first responder community by coordinating and conducting several types of training courses on various emergency management and homeland security related topics throughout the year such as; Weapons of Mass Destruction, Hazardous Materials Response, WMD Threat and Risk Assessment, all levels of the Incident Command and NIMS Systems, and EOC Management to name a few.
The GDEM Training & Exercise Unit provides a wide variety of formal training to enhance the emergency management knowledge and skills of state and local officials, emergency responders, and others. Courses are offered in the following areas:
GDEM training courses are open to local and state emergency management personnel, members of local and state emergency response organizations, members of volunteer organizations active in disasters and others who have need for emergency management or hazardous materials training.
Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) Training
Emergency response staff complete FEMA approved courses in order to maintain awareness, operational, and technician level training and certification. In conjunction with the Emergency Management Institute (http://training.fema.gov/EMICourses/) FEMA developed an adept Independent Study (IS) program which will not only provide the emergency response community with web-based training opportunities, but will also allow interested private citiazens and volunteers as well.
