Parents are invited to register their children on Saturday, May 4 and Saturday, May 18, to participate in the Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Youth Program. Participants will enjoy eight weeks of recreation – themed activities offered at approximately 40 school sites as well as 23 community centers.
The program keeps youth, ages six to 12, at school sites and six to 14 at community centers, active by engaging them in a variety of safe, supervised, age appropriate activities. These include traditional sports, craft projects, active games, art exploration, fitness and nutrition, as well as reading, math and science enrichment activities. Swimming opportunities will also be offered for program participants at select community centers this summer.
School site registration will be held from 8 a.m. to noon with registration locations and information to be announced.
The program runs from June 17 through Aug. 9, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Lunch and an afternoon snack are included. Sites will be closed on July 4.
Fees are based on a sliding scale, according to income and family size. The fee schedule and a list of items needed to complete the process are available at sanantonio.gov/parksandrec.
Additional opportunities to register for school site openings following the May 4 and May 18 registration dates will be offered at four locations. Registration for openings remaining at community centers will continue during regular business hours at the community centers until all slots are full.
