Taxicab Tax Clearances

Taxi PictureThe City Code requires that all City of San Antonio property taxes be paid prior to the issuance of a Taxicab Permit. A Tax Clearance must be applied for and received from the City of San Antonio Revenue Division, located at 506 Dolorosa Street. This rule applies not only to the permit holder, but to anyone using or leasing the permit. The owner of the property or vehicle is responsible for paying the taxes under the Texas State Property Tax Code. However, the holder of the permit holds a vested interest in making sure that the taxes have been paid, since the holder/applicant will not be able to obtain a Tax Clearance as long as anyone who uses or has used the permit owes delinquent taxes.

  • A referral form completed by the Ground Transportation Unit must be presented to the Investigative Services Section of the Revenue Division.

  • The completed referral form must be presented in person by the person whose name is listed on the referral.

  • Proper identification (current driver's license) must be provided by the applicant.

  • The owner of the company or head of a co-op must provide a list of all persons utilizing all permits held by the company or co-op.

  • A Tax Clearance application with sworn statement must be completed by the applicant in the presence of a City Tax Investigator.

  • Required information includes account numbers for all past accounts relating to taxicab permits and  proof of payment of ad valorem taxes on current account. If this is a new account, applicant must apply for a new account with the Bexar Appraisal District.

  • Applications require information such as contact addresses and phone numbers, vehicle identification, tax account numbers, etc.

NOTE:

  • Applications that are incomplete or inaccurate, or  completed by persons other than the applicant noted on the referral form will be disapproved.

  • Applications by applicants owing delinquent taxes will be disapproved.

  • Disapproval of any application for any applicant, owner or driver or other person owing taxes on property owned or being used in conjunction with the permit will automatically disallow all permits for that business until the delinquent taxes have been paid in full.

  • Applicants owing delinquent taxes on past businesses or property related to taxicab permits will have their applications disapproved until such taxes are paid.

Contact the Revenue Division Investigative Services Section at (210) 207-8660 for additional information.
