Metro Health Partners with Dental Society for Give Kids a Smile Day
February 1 event will address oral health of Southwest ISD students
Students from the Southwest Independent School District will receive essential oral health care as Metro Health’s Dental Division teams up with the San Antonio District Dental Society (SADDS) for the sixth annual Give Kids a Smile Day. More than 40 students identified by the dental society with “urgent care needs” will receive treatment on Friday, February 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Southwest Dental Clinic, 9011 Poteet/Jourdanton Highway.
Local volunteer dentists from the SADDS, including those who specialize in pediatric dentistry, will provide treatment. In addition to providing the site, equipment, materials and support staff for the event, Metro Health has distributed more than 450 certificates for dental sealants to children screened as part of the program, a value of more than $50,000.
Give Kids A Smile is national event designed to provide education, preventive and restorative care to low-income children who do not have access to oral health care. The event is the annual centerpiece to National Children's Dental Health Month (NCDHM), which is celebrated during the entire month of February. NCDHM focuses on providing oral health education to all children regardless of their economic status.
