Alliance Committees
Achieving our goals and public policy agendas has been made possible through the formation of strategic committees. Committee members include representatives from local hospitals, health care systems, community clinics, school districts, public health agencies, social service agencies, non-profit organizations, institutions of higher education, the military and local businesses. There are six committees that make up the Alliance and develop solutions through collaboration.
Access to Care Committee
The rate of uninsured continues to increase. This puts financial stress on our local health delivery systems and impacts the overall health of our community. This committee strives to better understand the local health delivery system and identify the various gaps in care. By forming collaborative approaches, the committee can assess the best approach to assuring access for our uninsured and underinsured.
Promoting Healthy Lifestyles Committee
Educating the greater community about the need to maintain personal health is critical to decreasing disease development. This committee strives to reduce the incidence of diabetes, obesity, heart disease and asthma by forming the Steps to a Healthier San Antonio Consortium.
Advocating through Public Policy Committee
Often times the greatest amount of change occurs through public policy action. Therefore, this committee convenes local advocacy groups to disseminate public policy information and encourage action by our policy leaders. The committee also conducts city and state candidates surveys on health issues.
Creating Community Committee
This committee focuses on how to enlighten and motivate San Antonia’s on the moral and practical obligation each of us has for the health and well-being of ourselves and our neighbors. By embracing the community of faith, strategic goals will be created to confront health disparities and ensure a better quality of life for all.
Research & Tracking Committee
Advocating change is made possible by providing result-driven facts. Therefore, this committee will develop innovative health data tracking resources, such as a Web-based community health report card, and build research partnerships to collect health care findings.
Environmental Health Committee
Our soil, water and the air we breathe are so important to our general health. This committee addresses our environmental needs through the Community Health environmental coalition (CHEC), a community-based environmentally concerned coalition. Raising awareness of the dangers of environmental toxins, decreasing air pollution and assuring conservation are key goals of this committee.
