Welcome to Metro Health’s Division of Epidemiology. The primary function of the Epidemiology Division is to protect City of San Antonio and Bexar County residents and visitors from disease outbreaks and identify persons of possible disease exposure. This is accomplished through the operation of infectious disease and bioterrorism surveillance, disease investigations, and emergency preparedness activities.
The Epidemiology Division investigates confirmed and suspected cases of infectious diseases and conditions that are reported by physician’s offices, hospitals and medical laboratories. Data is collected and examined to determine the existence of trends. Our team ensures that action is taken to prevent infectious disease outbreaks from occurring in Bexar County and area attractions.
Infectious diseases can be reported 24/7 at 207-5777 or 207-8876. In addition, disease reports can be faxed to our division at 207-8807 at any time.
