FIMR
What is the San Antonio/Bexar County Fetal Infant Mortality Review Team?
- The Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR, pronounced “fee-mur”) is a committee comprised of doctors, nurses, social workers, and service delivery agencies who are concerned about the health and well-being of women, infants and families in the San Antonio community.
- FIMR was established in San Antonio in 2005 within the Healthy Start Initiative with Metro Health .
- The Review team reviews infant deaths between the ages of 0-12 months that are not homicidal deaths.
- FIMR also gathers Sudden Unexplained Infant Death (*SUID) data for Bexar County. The team looks at trends in Bexar County that may lead to Sudden Unexplained Infant Death (SUID).
- FIMR works in collaboration with other community organizations and providers to create outreach programs to fill in service gaps identified through the death reviews.
*SUID - formerly known as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
