What is the San Antonio/Bexar County Fetal Infant Mortality Review Team?

  1. The Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR, pronounced “fee-mur”) is a committee comprised of doctors, nurses, social workers, and service delivery agencies who are concerned about the health and well-being of women, infants and families in the San Antonio community.
  2. FIMR was established in San Antonio in 2005 within the Healthy Start Initiative with Metro Health .
  3. The Review team reviews infant deaths between the ages of 0-12 months that are not homicidal deaths.
  4. FIMR also gathers Sudden Unexplained Infant Death (*SUID) data for Bexar County.  The team looks at trends in Bexar County that may lead to Sudden Unexplained Infant Death (SUID).
  5. FIMR works in collaboration with other community organizations and providers to create outreach programs to fill in service gaps identified through the death reviews.

*SUID - formerly known as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
