San Antonio Healthy Start is a program aimed at decreasing infant deaths in our community. The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District launched the program in March 2002. Healthy Start assists pregnant women and their families to get the care they need to make sure their babies are born healthy and stay healthy. The program provides services until the baby turns two years of age. Program components are Case Management, Outreach, Health Education and Fetal-Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) Team/Consortium.
Although Healthy Start services the entire San Antonio community, the Healthy Start case managers and outreach team focus their efforts on the east and southwest sides of Bexar County, due to the poor birth outcomes experienced by residents of these areas.
The Healthy Start target areas include the following zip codes: 78154, 78202, 78203, 78205, 78207, 78210, 78211, 78215, 78217, 78218, 78219, 78220, 78239, 78244, and 78254.
Please refer to the Healthy Start map for exact locations of the Healthy Start target areas. If you have any questions about the target areas, please contact Suzanne L. Tejeda, Community Liaison at (210) 299-5035.
