WIC Linkage Program
Infants and young children are particularly vulnerable to infectious diseases. It is critical that they are protected through immunization. Through the collaboration between Metro Health's Immunization and WIC divisions, the Immunization/WIC Linkage Program has been highly successful in raising awareness of the critical need for timely immunizations through the innovative education of parents and WIC staff. The Linkage program has found that the most effective strategy for accomplishing this goal is to provide immunization record assessments, reminder/recall, provider referalls and education to all WIC participants who are either due or behind on their immunizations. In addition, WIC clinic staff receives valuable training on the immunization schedule and the importance of having their clients up to date with their immunizations. Together WIC and the Immunization Division continue to increase immunization rates for children 0 to 2 years of age in San Antonio.
