Illegal Vendors Warned Not to Set Up Shop During Fiesta
Metro Health Sanitarians will cite those seeking to capitalize on
10-day party
Fiesta San Antonio will not be a party for people wanting to set up makeshift food stands and other illegal vendors. Metro Health officials are warning them that Fiesta is no different than any other day - ordinances will be adhered to and no illegal vending will be tolerated.
The department’s sanitarians will keep an eye out for illegal vendors and give them citations, if found. Citations for illegal vending carry a fine of up to $2,000. In addition to that cost, vendors will be shut down and their food disposed of immediately.
“Some people see Fiesta and other temporary events as a cash cow with no concern for the public’s health,” said Sanitarian Services Manager Stephen Barscewski. “Our goal is to make sure that those enjoying Fiesta are being served by legal vendors who know the rules for food safety and hygiene.”
People seeking to sell food items legally need a permit. They can obtain a permit at the Development and Business Services Center, 1901 S. Alamo, or at Metro Health’s Administration Building located at 332 W. Commerce.
