The mission of the Occupational Health and Employee Wellness Division is to conserve and promote personal health for the employees of the City of San Antonio and the public health of residents and visitors of San Antonio and unincorporated areas of Bexar County.  Our goal is to complete the mission efficiently, effectively and professionally.

Program Information:

The Occupational Health and Employee Wellness Program provides preplacement physical examinations for prospective City of San Antonio employees.  We conduct evaluations for return to work, fitness for duty physicals, and evaluations for light-duty program, as needed, for all classes of current employees referred by Human Resources.  We coordinate drug screening services for prospective City employees and incumbents in safety-sensitive positions requiring a CDL license. In addition, the Occupational Health and Employee Wellness Program:

provides medical research, opinion and advice on Firefighter and Police Officer preplacement evaluation protocols to the Fire and Police Civil Service Commission.

provides minor emergency treatment for work-related injuries, and referral services for employees requiring specialized care.

provides employee preventive health screening exams, follow-up consultation and referral to private providers for primary care.

provides employee health education and employee vaccinations.

Future Changes:
Effective August 1, 2008, Occupational Health Services will be transitioned to a third party agency.  Efforts will be made to minimize the impact on services as this transition occurs.
