What if I am Already Sexually Active?
Being "sexually active" means you are having sex. That includes all kinds of sex—so even if you have never had vaginal sex, you have been sexually active if you have had oral or anal sex.
Anyone who has ever been sexually active needs regular check-ups with a health professional. It is important to check for STDs (sexually transmitted diseases), and to take good care of yourself. You can get checked for STDs at the Metro Health STD Clinic: 207-8830.
Anyone who is sexually active should be RESPONSIBLE. Using condoms every time is one way to lower your risk of STDs. Using condoms or birth control (or both!) is essential to prevent unplanned pregnancy.
Even if you have been sexually active, you can still decide to choose abstinence and not have sex. Just because you have had sex before doesn’t mean you can’t choose abstinence now. And no one should be pressuring you or making you do anything sexual. It is your decision—no one else’s. If someone is pressuring you to have sex, call (210) 349-7273 to talk to an adult about the situation.
Project WORTH recommends you decide on abstinence—not having sex—because it is your healthiest choice. But if you are sexually active, use protection!
