Public Meeting will Detail Proposed Changes to Food Code
March 27 meeting will include information and public comment session
Restaurant owners and managers along with others with a vested interest in the industry are encouraged to attend a public meeting that will detail proposed changes to Chapter 13 of the City Ordinance. Chapter 13 contains the rules and policies pertaining to food and food handlers. It is the code restaurants, mobile vendors, and others serving food must follow and the ordinance sanitarians with Metro Health enforce to ensure food safety for consumers.
The public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 27, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the City of San Antonio Training Facility, 131 El Paso. Sanitarian Services Manager Stephen Barscewski will detail the proposed changes to the ordinance. The meeting will then be open for public comment.
“We have already initiated dialogue with and gathered input from the San Antonio Restaurant Association and other organizations,” said Barscewski. “Now, we are eager to receive comments from other stakeholders and the public.”
Chapter 13 is being amended in an effort to modernize it as well as to better synchronize the code with the Texas Food Establishment Rules and the Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards. Proposed changes for Chapter 13 can be found on Metro Health’s website at www.sanantonio.gov/health/foodsanitation.
