An application for historic district designation for a portion of E Mistletoe between E Kings Ct and McCullough Ave (Tobin Hill North) was received and confirmed by OHP staff on October 17, 2016. The proposed district falls within the Tobin Hill Community Association boundaries and City Council District 1.
A public informational meeting was held on November 10, 2016, to discuss the current application, design review process for historic properties, and available incentives for property owners. All property owners within the proposed boundaries received a mailed invitation to attend the meeting. View the presentation here.
Enclosed with the invitations to the informational meeting, property owners were given a postcard form to indicate either their support or their opposition to the proposed historic district designation. OHP staff used the postcards to verify support or opposition for the proposed district. The applicant for the district also provided OHP staff with a signed petition. Support indicated by the petition was confirmed by staff over the phone in addition to the mailed postcards.
UPDATE: On November 18, the Office of Historic Preservation received and verified written support from 51% of properties within the proposed boundary. The Historic and Design Review Commission (HDRC) heard the case at its meeting on December 21, and concurred with the finding of historic significance for the proposed district. The public hearing process continued with a Zoning Commission meeting on February 21, 2017 at 1:00 pm. In response to feedback from the community, the Office of Historic Preservation requested a continuance for the case. A neighborhood meeting organized by Council District 1 was held on April 4th at Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church hall. The next public hearing will take place at the Zoning Commission meeting on Tuesday, May 16th, at 1:00 pm in the Board Room at the Development and Business Services Center, 1901 S Alamo.
