In 2011, Shirley Ellis retired after a 40-year career in the insurance industry. Currently, she works part time for a non-profit at the Claude Black Center in District 2. Shirley graduated from Southern University with a Bachelor of Science degree and is a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where she serves as an usher and a member of the social justice team. She is also a member of The Wheatley Heights Action Group, which is the neighborhood association for her community. Shirley joined the Affirmative Action Advisory Committee in November 2013 because of her desire to be involved in decisions that affect her community.
