Application FAQs Continued

What is the status of my application?
To check on the status of your application, you may contact the assigned Human Resources Analyst, which can be found at the bottom of the job posting.

What does "In Process" mean?
In Process means the application is complete and is being reviewed.

An error came up after I tried to certify my application.
If the error occurred during business hours (7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) you may contact the Human Resources Department at (210) 207-8108 for assistance. If the error occurred after business hours then you would contact the ITSD's Help Desk at (210) 207-8888.

What if I submit two applications for the same job opening?
Ideally you should submit only one application for a job opening. However, if a Non-City applicant submits more than one application by creating multiple usernames and passwords for a job opening we will consider both applications.

May I submit a resume?
A resume can be submitted as an attachment to a completed application. The online application process provides the opportunity to attach a resume electronically.

Will you notify me when a job opens in my field?
Currently, there is no process for notifying applicants of job openings in a given field. However, you may browse our website at www.sanantonio.gov for Job Descriptions and Job Availability.

May I complete an application to use for future job openings?
Your completed online application may be accessed for future use by using your username and password. You may use your completed online application to apply for future online job openings with the City of San Antonio.

What about paper applications?
For jobs requiring a paper application, an applicant must submit a paper application for each position.
We have been phasing out paper applications since the implementation of our Internet-based recruitment system. You may have noticed that submission of an online application is now a requirement for some job openings. If you still choose to complete a paper application, contact our office at (210) 207-8108 and we will assist you with this process.

What about closing dates?
To be considered for a job, your online application must be submitted by midnight on the closing date for the position. The closing date information can be found in far right column of the Job Openings. You may also view the closing date on the job announcement. A position with a closing date of "Open until filled" means that applications are continuously evaluated as they are received. Positions may be closed out at any time. Once pools of "best qualified" candidates are identified, the interview process may begin.

I have submitted my application. What happens next?
If your online application has been successfully submitted you will receive a confirmation e-mail immediately. You will also see the confirmation message on your computer screen. Your application will be reviewed for qualifications and be forwarded to the hiring department if requirements are met.
If minimal qualifications are met, the hiring department may contact the applicant if they wish to schedule the applicant for a job interview. Depending upon the requirements of the job, examinations may include a written exam, an oral exam, and/or a performance exam.
